The art
1)First off, how long have you been drawing?
I have always drawn. When I "improved" the wallpaper as a child, my parents made sure I had a
pad of paper from then on.
2) And what inspired you to first start drawing?
Animals were the first thing I think.
3) What were the first things you ever drew, were they dragons?
Once I was exposed to dragons, they were a regular theme.
4) What made you want to draw dragons?
I like to draw powerful and sleek creatures. Dragons are both and they can fly.
5) What emotions do you add to your drawings?
Whatever the subject suggests.
The Artist
6) Your favourite dragon if you have one? This can either be a specific dragon or just a picture
you've seen.
Not yet. But I do tend to prefer the Occidental/Celtic ones.
7) Do you have any special things you like do to while or before drawing to help give you
inspiration?
Listen to music that enhances the mood.
8) Have you done any courses in art of any sort?
Yes, I went to Paier College of Art in Connecticut.
9) What is your favoured medium when it comes to your art? (eg pencil, oil pants etc)
If I can work large and have the time to spend, I prefer oils. Otherwise the majority of my work is done in Dr Martins Dyes and Berol Prismacolor pencils.
10) Tell us a little bit about the stages you go through while drawing your pictures.
Let's see. Usually I get an idea worked out in a VERY loose thumbnail. Then I amass the reference
I want. Then I make several sketches and settle on one that is usually a combination of several. Then I work out the contrast values and scan it and for color studies in Photoshop. The sketch
gets transfered to paper or masonite and then it gets painted.
11) List a few of your other interests apart from drawing. Is drawing your full time job? If not, what do you do?
Reading, music, movies, cooking, nature, animals, fantasy, celtic stuff, supernatural stuff, I could go on and on.... At the moment illustrating is my full time income generating job but that may change soon.
12) Who is your favourite artist?
Where do I start. I don't have an overall favorite. Mucha, Michelangelo, Vermeer, Waterhouse, Escher, Magritte, again, I could go on and on.
13) Anything else you would like to add?
Nope.
